Jatin Khanna, well known among the masses as Rajesh Khanna, reigned the world of films for almost ten long years. Recognized as the first superstar of film industry, he boasted the largest and maddest fan following, especially thousands of girls. He is still the favorite among mimicry artists because of his special way of acting and dialogue delivery.
Because of his passion for acting, he participated and won the All India Expertise Contest competing against many other contestants when he was young. His on-screen performance in first film Aakhri Khat and subsequent film Raaz helped him win the All India United Producer's Talent Competition. He could act in Baharon Ke Sapne, Aurat and Aradhana as he was in contract with the United Producers. Aradhana was a special film because people saw the stellar performance of Rajesh Khanna and the re-entry of Kishore Kumar as a singer.
Movies like Bawarchi, Anand and Namak Haram saw Rajesh Khanna in totally various characters, portrayed convincingly. He shared the best on-screen chemistry with Mumtaz. The hit pair went on to act in eight successful films. His on-screen chemistry was good with Sharmila Tagore, which made way many of his hit films in Bollywood. He was paired with almost all the exclusive actresses of the age such as Tina Munim, Shabana Azmi, Poonam Dhillon, Asha Parekh and Hema Malini. He was friendly towards his co-actors and associates.
He married the actress Dimple Kapadia, who along with his close friends, called him Kaka. The charismatic presence of this actor made people go crazy at his public appearances. Crazy female fans even kissed his car, got married to his image and even sent him letters written in blood. An article about him titled 'The Charisma Of Rajesh Khanna' was included in the textbook of Bombay University. Such was the effect of his charisma on fans. His record of 15 continuous hits between '69 and '72 remains unbroken even today.
Rajesh Khanna rose to success again after a downfall, with films like Agar Tum Na Hote, Avtaar and Hum Dono, being some of them. He discontinued acting when he served the position of MP for the New Delhi constituency. He entered the film industry again with Kyaa Dil Ne Kaha and Aa Ab Laut Chalen. Although his appearance in movies have gone down, fans can see him through some Television serials.
