Salman Khan has returned back to playing simpler characters. With his Pawan Kumar Chaturvedi creating a storm at the box office in the first three days, the first Monday collections were expected to be the acid test for the actor and the film. And Bajrangi Bhaijaan has managed to sail through, effortlessly. The film recorded the highest ever Monday collections for any film and also beat Aamir Khan’s Dhoom 3 record.
While the first three day collections summed up around the Rs 102 crore mark, the collections fell little short of Shah Rukh Khan’s Happy New Year and Aamir Khan’s Dhoom 3’s opening weekend collections. But Bajrangi Bhaijaan has managed to do something that even Aamir and SRK’s films could not do. The collections for the film on Monday were as good as its opening day. Now that's quite a feat!
Bajrangi Bhaijaan has earned around Rs 27.05 crore on its first Monday, taking its cumulative total to Rs 129.65 crore at the box office. With that, Salman has broken Shah Rukh and Aamir’s previous records.
Here’s the lowdown:
Shah Rukh Khan:
Although Chennai Express still stands as his biggest film till date, SRK had created a storm last Diwali with Happy New Year opening to a bombastic Rs 44.97 crore at the box office. The film remained consistent in the first weekend but its collections dropped a little and settled around the Rs 15 crore mark on its first Monday. After four days, HNY had collected around Rs 123.86 crore at the box office, highest for any SRK starrer.
Aamir Khan:
Aamir Khan’s films have always raked in huge moolah at the box office. But his biggest triumphs came in the form of Dhoom 3 and PK. While PK had a slow start, it managed to keep up its momentum and ensured a lifetime of Rs 333 crore, a record set in Hindi cinema. But it was Aamir’s Dhoom 3 which opened better. With around Rs 107 crore coming in the first weekend itself, D:3 managed to add Rs 21 crore more on the first Monday, taking its total to a whopping Rs 128 crore.
Salman Khan:
His films have always been the talking point at the cash registers. Certainly one of the biggest money churners in the industry today, his simpleton avatar in Bajrangi Bhaijaan seems to have worked wonders for the actor. While BB has already overtaken his previous best- Kick and Ek Tha Tiger, it has witnessed huge occupancy on its first Monday. With huge money coming in on the fourth day, BB which was a little behind D:3 and HNY after the opening weekend has managed to net in Rs 129.65 crore already, beating Aamir and SRK’s previous records.
Will Bajrangi Bhaijaan manage to soar high at the box office? Will it break the opening week record of Dhoom 3? Let’s wait and watch. But one thing’s for certain- BB is on its way to become the biggest Salman Khan film ever.
